STOCKHOLM - Anthony Johnson will soon challenge UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones after securing a devastating first-round victory over one-time title challenger Alexander Gustafsson. The contest served as the headlining bout of Saturdays UFC Fight Night: Gustafsson vs. Johnson, which took place in front of an announced 26,000 fans at Stockholms Tele2 Arena.Johnson (19-4) came out aggressively in the first round, looking to pressure his taller, more mobile opponent. Gustafsson (16-3) evaded well to start, avoiding any of his opponents heavy power shots. But after Gustafsson inadvertently poked his foes right eye, everything changed. After being given a brief timeout, Johnson pressed forward and immediately scored with a devastating right hand that sent Gustafsson to his knees. As the lanky Swede tried desperately to regain his footing, Johnson unleashed a vicious barrage of punches that left Gustafsson unable to recover. Referee Marc Goddard gave Gustafsson every possible chance to recover in front of his home audience, but the fight was ultimately waved off at the 2:15 mark of the first frame.Jon Jones, I hope you get well brother, Johnson said after the win. Lets get this championship on and make the crowd excited about this.In the nights co-feature, top middleweight contender Gegard Mousasi (36-5-2) earned a quick, albeit somewhat controversial, TKO win over former Strikeforce and PRIDE champion Dan Henderson (30-13).Mousasi, 15 years younger than his opponent, looked to be the quicker fighter to start, and he used a long jab to establish range early. His speed advantage was evident to start, and it was obvious Henderson was going to need to rely on his powerful right hand to win the fight. Unfortunately for him, when he threw hit, Mousasi slipped the punch and countered with a right hand to the top of the head that sent Henderson wobbling to the canvas.Mousasi followed and, though he didnt land any clean shots once the fight was on the floor, referee Leon Roberts decided Henderson had seen enough and halted the bout. Not fully aware of his surroundings, Henderson wound up wrestling the referee, seeming to support the officials call. However, the crowd vehemently protested the end.I thought it was a good stoppage, Mousasi said after the win. Right when he went down, I would have been able to put another punch in it, but I didnt because I thought the referee would stop it. And then I thought, Well, maybe they arent going to stop it, so I kept punching afterwards. So I think it was a good stoppage. In a key light heavyweight contest, Ryan Bader (19-4) earned a hard-fought split-decision win over fellow wrestling standout Phil Davis (13-3).Neither fighter was able to really establish much momentum in the contest, with Davis trying to stay at distance other than nine missed takedown attempts in the 15-minute affair. Meanwhile, Bader preferred a boxing attack, but he seldom was able to put together extended strings of attacks. A restless crowd booed the frequent stalemates, and judges werent given much to score, but two of the three judges ruled in Baders favour, and he was awarded a split-decision victory. It was a split decision, but I walked out with a win, so Im happy, Bader said after the fight. Performance-wise, I felt like I was a bit sloppy at times. Hes obviously a really good wrestler. His standup is just sporadic. At the end of the day, I came out of there with a win and I got the job done.In the nights first main-card matchup, featherweight Sam Sicilia (14-5) scored a devastating first-round knockout of Swedish fighter Akira Corassani (12-6).Corassani was moving well to start the fight, shifting laterally on the outside and darting in and out of range. But as he started to open up on the feet, Sicilia clipped him with a devastating overhand right that sent Corassani crashing to the floor. Sicilia followed with more punches, but the bout was already over at the 3:26 mark of the first round.Thats the most comfortable Ive ever felt in the octagon, Sicilia said after the win. I really felt I had it together this time. The crowd was giving me high fives on the way out. They just wanted to see a good fight, so it was really cool. Jamies number grades given are out of five, with five being the best mark. Marc-Andre Fleury, Pittsburgh Penguins (3) – He had a solid first period again as he was composed and very confident in net. Carl Hagelins goal was a good shot above the glove which broke a 145 minute shutout streak for Fleury. He made the big save on Rick Nash during a two on one break look easy. The second goal was a bit of a softie as it squeaked through his glove shortside. Fleury was solid overalll, but it was a slow night, only facing 15 shots.dddddddddddd Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers (3) – There was slight interference on the first goal by Evgeni Malkin as he was late to get down and the puck went underneath his left pad. Lundqvist had a huge save on Beau Bennett on the backdoor with a great reaction off the post. He also had a big left pad save on Malkin and a nice redirection save on Sidney Crosby in the second. He was hung out to dry in the third and didnt get much help as he faced big chances by Chris Kunitz and Brandon Sutter. His body language looks frustrated.
