With the bye weeks behind us and a number of teams in most leagues out of fantasy playoff contention, we run down the top pickups on a now thin waiver wire. WR Michael Crabtree (vs Rams)Last week: Injured A solid WR2 last year, Crabtree is expected to make his 2013 debut against St. Louis this weekend. Coming off a tough Achilles injury, and likely to be worked into the 49ers game plan slowly at least to start, dont expect Crabtree to hit his 2012 numbers right away. Hes still worth a pickup however as a possible WR3/flex play off the bat and possibly more moving forward this season. WR Miles Austin (vs Raiders)Last week: 1 catch, 17 yards Austin made a less than impressive return from a three-game absence Sunday against the Giants, but it should only get better from here. If the 29-year-olds hamstring holds up down the stretch, the hope is he supplants Terrence Williams in terms of usage in the Cowboys offence. While he may be more useful in real football, drawing attention away from Dez Bryant and Jason Witten, his play could warrant five-plus targets in a strong offence. WR Rod Streater (at Cowboys)Last week: 5 catches, 93 yards Two things conspire to make Streater worth a look if youre in need of help at WR. One, Matt McGloin providing a better pass game than the less-accurate, more prone to run Terrelle Pryor in Oakland, and two, Denarius Moores injury which elevated Streater to McGloins top target. McGloin looks to have secured the Raiders QB job at least for the time being and playing on a short week, Moore may not be ready to return until Week 14. Streater should see a similar workload on American Thanksgiving against a Cowboys defence that can certainly be scored on. RB Rashard Mendenhall (at Eagles)Last week: 13 carries, 54 yards, 1 TD Mendenhall had become the forgotten man in Arizona with fantasy players leaning more towards Andre Ellington of late. And while its clear the two are locked in a timeshare in the Cardinals backfield, its one that sees Mendenhall receive all the red zone touches. The two had similar workloads and totals in Arizonas big win over the Colts on Sunday, the only difference – and its a big one – was Mendenhalls touchdown. Take the veteran over the rookie in Arizona, hell score you more touchdowns. QB Matt Flynn (at Lions)Last week: 21/36, 218 yards, 1 TD The quarterback with nine lives appears to be in the best possible situation. Green Bay has something that Seattle, Oakland, and Buffalo doesnt and it makes Flynn look like a serviceable NFL QB. Flynns play in relief of Scott Tolzien against Minnesota warrants another start, unless of course Aaron Rodgers returns from injury. And do you remember the last time Flynn played Detroit while wearing a Packers jersey? It earned him a lot of money. Green Bay – and desperate fantasy owners – can only hope for a similar outcome this Thursday. TE Rob Housler (at Eagles)Last week: 4 catches, 51 yards Housler has flown under the radar all season and while that was certainly justified the first few weeks of the season, for desperate fantasy owners, hes been at least worth a look ever since. Housler scores very few touchdowns so hell never be mistaken as a TE1, but hes steady in averaging 50+ receiving yards per game of late. Arizona has been hot as of late and while thats unlikely to last too much longer, Housler is a viable injury replacement during their run. Tramaine Brock Broncos Jersey . Its the second straight year he has decided not to play as he cuts back his schedule. Stricker was replaced in the field by Ryo Ishikawa of Japan. Royce Freeman Broncos Jersey . -- Steven Stamkos scored his first goal since returning from a major injury, Ryan Callahan had his first goal with Tampa Bay, and the Lightning beat the Florida Panthers 5-4 on Thursday night. http://www.broncosrookiestore.com/Broncos-Marquette-King-Jersey/ . - The Baltimore Ravens and tight end Dennis Pitta reached agreement on a five-year contract Friday. Bouchard went down to a 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 defeat at the hands of Svitolina in her opening match at the Sony Open on Friday. Bouchard got the rivalry going two years ago when she won the junior Wimbledon title over Svitolina.LANDOVER, Md. -- Robert Griffin IIIs surgeon ended up tending to Griffins backup. LeVeon Bell got hurt again. There were 15 penalties and seven turnovers, including a sequence of three giveaways in five plays. What a mess it was when the Washington Redskins beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-13 Monday night. Good thing the preseason doesnt count, except when it hurts. Kirk Cousins, the insurance policy in case Griffin isnt ready for the Redskins regular-season opener, sprained his right foot early in the second quarter. Bell, the second-round pick who was supposed to have the inside track on the up-for-grabs Steelers running back job, hurt his right foot in the first quarter, another injury to go with the sore left knee that kept him out of Pittsburghs preseason opener. Griffin didnt play, even though he suited up again in his yearning to get on his field as he makes his way back from reconstructive right knee surgery. Hes been cleared by Dr. James Andrews for practice, but not for games. Andrews, owner Dan Snyder and general manager Bruce Allen chatted before the game while Griffin was warming up, and no doubt a prime topic was the protocol for determining whether last years Offensive Rookie of the Year will be ready for the regular-season opener Sept. 9. Griffin raised eyebrows when he dressed in full uniform before the preseason opener at Tennessee on Aug. 8, even though he knew he wasnt going to play. He did the same Monday night, right down to the bulky black brace on his right knee. Earlier, he wC a white T-shirt with the words "OPERATION PATIENCE," his ad hoc theme throughout training camp meant to temper his unhappiness with coach Mike Shanahans cautious practice plan. Cousins started and went 2 for 3 for 19 yards before he got injured the same way Griffin did during a game last season -- while getting tackled at the end of a run. He grabbed his right foot after being dragged down alongg the sideline by linebacker Lawrence Timmons and was examined by Andrews before walking to the locker room.dddddddddddd The Steelers were so anxious to see what Bell could do that they gave him the ball on the first four offensive plays of the game. The ex-Michigan State back gained 4, 3, 1 and 2 yards, left the game and never returned. The trainers for both teams stayed busy. Steelers fullback Will Johnson left with a rib injury and running back Baron Batch had a stinger. Redskins receivers Aldrick Robinson (left thigh) and Leonard Hankerson (right knee), defensive tackle Barry Cofield (right hand) and running back Keiland Williams (left knee) were also among the ailing. The hands-down star of the game was Redskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan, who made a juggling interception of a screen pass from Ben Roethlisberger and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown. Later, Kerrigan stripped Roethlisbergers backup, Bruce Gradkowski, to force another turnover. With Griffin and Cousins not available, Rex Grossman took advantage of the extra playing time and completed 10 of 16 passes for 133 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The TD pass was 10 yards over the middle to Hankerson, who reached high to make a one-handed catch. Roethlisberger completed 5 of 6 passes for 66 yards before giving way to Gradkowski early in the second quarter. The Steelers got their only touchdown in the fourth quarter when rookie Landry Jones hit Derek Moye for a 10-yard score. Both coaches will have plenty of teachable moments from the game video. The Redskins committed three personal foul penalties for the second straight game -- including two Monday on safety DeJon Gomes -- and have been whistled for 18 total penalties in two games. The Steelers ruined a promising drive deep in Washington territory with a hands-to-the-face penalty on centre Maurice Pouncey and a holding call on left tackle Mike Adams, two of Pittsburghs eight penalties.
