WINDHOEK Tarik Cohen Bears Jersey , Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Provisional results released Saturday by the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) showed Namibia's ruling party Swapo and its presidential candidate Hage Geingob is heading towards a landslide victory in the country's Presidential and National Assembly elections held Friday.


Provisional results showed that Namibia's Prime Minister and ruling party presidential candidate Dr Hage Geingob had garnered more than 80 percent of votes counted thus far while newcomer, the DTA's McHenry Venaani, was placed second with a paltry 7.44 percent of the vote.


Geingob's long time rival and official opposition party leader Hidipo Hamutenya was placed third with 5.37 percent of votes cast.


If the trend continues, which is highly likely, Geingob will become Namibia's third president since the country gained independence from South Africa in 1990.


Full results are expected within 24 hours of the end of the vote with some polling stations closing as late as early this morning Mitchell Trubisky Bears Jersey , according to media reports.


The incoming president will only be inaugurated in March 2015, according to the country's Constitution.


Geingob was born on August 3, 1941 in the central-northern town of Otjiwarongo, about 250 km from the capital Windhoek.


In 1964, he was appointed Swapo representative at the United Nations and to the Americas. He served in this position until 1971.

Before independence in 1989, Geingob returned to Namibia on June 18, 1989 after 27 years in exile.


He was elected by Swapo's highest decision making body -- the Politburo -- to spearhead the party's election campaign in Namibia.


As Swapo's Director of Elections, Geingob helped establish the party's election centres throughout the country and spearheaded an election campaign which brought Swapo to power in Namibia.


He was also elected Chairman of the Constituent Assembly responsible for formulating the Namibian Constitution which was later adopted on Feb. 9 Authentic Trey Burton Jersey , 1990. The Namibian Constitution is considered one of the most liberal and democratic in the world.


A two-time Prime Minister of the Southwest African country, Geingob first served as Prime Minister in 1990 until 2002 when he fell out of favour with the then president Sam Nujoma.


He briefly worked in Washington DC (2003 to 2005) as the Executive Secretary of the Global Coalition for Africa, an inter- governmental organisation bringing together top African policy makers and international partners.


The U.S. educated politician is a former primary school teacher who holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fordham University in New York and a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from the Graduate Faculty of The New School, New York in 1974. Geingob later received a Ph.D from the University of Leeds in 2004.


After his brief sojourn in the United States, Geingob returned to Namibia as a back bencher in Parliament before he was elected as the Swapo party Chief Whip in parliament.

As a Damara, Geingob is ecpected to become Namibia's first president outside the dominant Owambo tribe.


As Namibia's first Prime Minister, Geingob is credited for introducing modern management approaches to the running of the government.
